In Conversation With: Judy

Growing up, Judy found it hard to find clothes that fit, and was always being told by family members to ‘stand straight’. In 2019, Judy’s back pain was severe and her surgeon advised that she would likely need a spinal fusion. Listen to Judy’s journey with scoliosis-specific physiotherapy, and how even as adult, she was able to make meaningful change in her life. Read her full story.

Scoliosis Bracing For Adults

Custom spinal bracing may be a crucial part of the treatment process for some people with scoliosis or Scheuermann’s Kyphosis.

For adults, custom spinal bracing may be used to support the trunk and spine during certain activities and alleviate pain and discomfort.

Over the years, we’ve developed a closely collaborative relationship with Certified Orthotists who are trained in 3-dimensional scoliosis bracing techniques to maximize the outcomes of our clients. The team at  Hodgson Orthopedic Group has locations in Coquitlam and Surrey (our satellite clinic is located here!) to service the surrounding areas.

In addition to collaborating on shared clients, we’re continually holding dialogue to improve our combined approach to conservative management of scoliosis. To read more about their methods for scoliosis bracing, click here.

During sessions with your ScoliClinic therapist, you can discuss if custom spinal bracing is recommended for you.

TSC Connect

We understand that it isn’t always possible to seek direct treatment for scoliosis with our team. We acknowledge barriers such as geographical location, finances, scheduling, or other family obligations, and so we created our YouTube channel with the goal of improving accessibility for adults like you. TSC Connect is a platform for you to access free scoliosis resources from home.

With online workouts becoming more and more popular, we’re designing scoliosis-friendly workouts that you can do at home – and here are a few of our favourites. Be sure to check out our full channel HERE to see more workouts, educational videos, interviews, and more.

*Please remember that although these workout are designed to help you maintain your fitness with scoliosis-friendly movements, they will not necessarily prevent progression of the curve nor decrease any symptoms you have. These workouts do NOT replace individualized consultation and treatment by a Scoliosis-trained Physiotherapist – in our 1:1 sessions with you, we will prescribe curve-specific exercises to help you achieve specific goals.

Low-Impact
Full Body Workout

Here’s a full body beginner level workout designed for people with scoliosis and/or Scheuermann’s Kyphosis. Since these exercises are low impact and don’t use any weights or resistance, these movements are also great for people who have had spinal surgery AND have been cleared by their surgeon to return to exercises.

Scoliosis-Friendly
Glute Workout

So many of us sit all.day.long. And because of this, our glutes lack the activation needed to properly support our pelvis.

Online glute workouts are super popular these days, so we created a series that targets these important pelvic stabilizers while keeping your spine in a neutral position.

Scoliosis-Friendly
Flexibility Series

Feeling stiff? We hear you!

Maintaining range of motion and flexibility is important as we age, and we want to maximize the flexibility of the muscles of the shoulders, hips, and legs. Here’s a stretching routine that takes into account the specific scoliosis-related needs of people like you.
