Custom-Designed Scoliosis Workshops for Healthcare Professionals

If you’re a healthcare or movement professional working in a team setting, then there’s a high chance that some of you have met clients with scoliosis (incidence rate: 3% of adolescents and up to 60% of adults of the age of 60!).

Detailed information on scoliosis isn’t commonly taught, and theoretical facts found on google may not provide the tips for practical application that you really need. We’ve worked hard over the years to streamline the most critical and practical information for you, creating impactful learning experiences for you and your team.

Over the past few years, we’ve been offering these workshops to our colleagues here in Vancouver and to others across Canada and the rest of the world.

Examples of past customizations:

  • Master of Physical Therapy students learned how to identify, assess, and appropriately refer clients with scoliosis, as they were about to enter the workforce in a variety of practice areas

  • Paediatric Physiotherapists learned similarities and differences between idiopathic and neurological scoliosis, and how to adapt Schroth-based principles for kiddos with cognitive and physical challenges

  • A group of Physiotherapists and Clinical Pilates instructors working together in a studio learned strategies to modify mat, reformer, and other equipment repertoire to suit the needs of each client

  • A group of Kinesiologists learned about biomechanics to consider while coaching their clients through resistance training and weightlifting

Individualized Scoliosis Mentorship

for PSSE-Trained Therapists

If you’re a healthcare professional who has already received training in one of the recognized schools of Scoliosis-Specific Physiotherapeutic Exercises (PSSE), and you’re looking for guidance in putting your training into practice for your scoliosis clients, then our External Mentorship option may be the right fit for you. We encourage YOU to assess your learning needs to determine the topics and flow of these personalized sessions.

Some possible topics to discuss are:

  • X-Ray analysis findings
  • Postural findings – assessing posture photos
  • Review of postural correction (Schroth) exercise set-up, cueing, modifications, and progressions
  • Tips for helpful cues to use when guiding your client through movements
  • Treatment planning – discussing appropriateness of monitoring, treatment frequency, re-assessments
  • Communication approaches for clients and families on challenging topics like surgery, treatment plan adherence, progressing curves and more
  • Strategies to decrease barriers to treatment, and how to foster cultural safety, inclusion, and accessibility in treatments

Fee: $225 CAD per hour

To maximize our time together, we ask that you send a list of questions or client cases prior to the Mentoring session. You’ll be paired with a senior therapist, who will prepare accordingly for the session.

*Note: We acknowledge that varying currency exchange rates may create financial barriers for therapists in some countries. Group mentoring is available for up to 5 colleagues/peers to enable custom learning while maintaining small group learning dynamics.
