Scheuermann’s Kyphosis –
Adults

Adults with Scheuermann’s Kyphosis may benefit from working with a ScoliClinic Physical Therapist to learn Schroth exercises. Although adults are skeletally mature, they may benefit from specific physical therapy exercises to address posture, esthetics, and pain management, as back pain is common in adults with Scheuermann’s Kyphosis.

Our Physical Therapists will provide education to help you modify your activities and come up with strategies to alleviate your discomfort. Your custom exercise program will include exercises to offload your spine, and also exercises to strengthen your postural muscles.

Before your appointment

A referral to the BCCH Spine Program and/or bracing can be discussed at the initial assessment. If your child already has a brace, physiotherapeutic scoliosis-specific exercises (PSSE) are recommended to maintain postural muscle strength, and to retain as much correction as possible when brace wear ends.

It is ideal if a physician has diagnosed your child with scoliosis or Scheuermann’s via X-Ray. We require these images to design custom treatment plans.

Please bring:

  • X-ray images either digitally or on disc if available
(we can request them directly from the imaging facility; more info upon booking your initial appointment)
  • Any relevant reports
  • Sports bra / tank top, shorts or leggings

Please note: Payments can be made by credit card, cash, or cheque. We cannot accept debit at this time.
